Preparations The team members are all in general in very good physical shape, but we know that is not enough for a successful attempt. The main difficulties will be the weather conditions and the altitude. In July/ August is the warmest and most stable period, but it can still be snowstorms and avalanches. All members of the expedition team have many years of experience in mountaineering and skiing and especially in cold conditions. During the last year the group have prepared themselves through training in the norwegian mountains, where the temperature often sinks below -20. The main difficulty besides the weather will of course be the extreme altitude. This will be the first time above 7000 meters for everyone in the group. Enough altitude training is always difficult to obtain. Some of us have been above 6400 and know how the body reacts in these conditions. Some have earlier felt the effects of altitude sickness, and this is a danger we will not underestimate. Inside the group there is a lot of knowledge on how to behave to acclimatisize in the best possible way. Earlier expeditions 2000 4 members of the team climbed Elbrus, Europes highest mountain in Caucasia with its 5643 m. More about the attempt (in norwegian) here 2001 3 members of the team climbed Illimani, Bolivia 6439 m. |
